Tournament Play - some ideas on how to make Hor$ense Pro work better in tournaments

Start with a Hor$tyle change...

I created a "Tournament" Hor$trategy (based on the "Generic" default) and set the "Adjust Limit" to -20(%)... this will give you more selections than the "Generic" Hor$trategy!

Optionally, make a Hor$etup change...

If the tournament is of the "Win Only" variety, then choose the "Win Only" Wagerer option... this will tailor your Hor$essions to meet your needs!

Optionally, make a few Hor$ession changes...

Use the "generic" Hor$ession (defaults from the Maintenance menu) and click on the "Assign Thresholds" button (upper-right corner)...

Note that the changes to this screen are just my suggestions... make sure that you consider how you want to impact your selections for each race...

Also, remember to save the Hor$ession (I used the name "Tournament")...

Finally, a Hor$etup change in an actual race...

Step 1 is to load the "Tournament" Hor$ession...
Step 2 is to click on the "Reset" button (for the Primary Facets)...
Step 3 is to make any (optional) adjustments to the Supporting Facets this will tailor the current race Hor$ession to find a "tourney ready" horse!!!

Downloading Data Files - getting your data files in to the right Hor$ense Pro folder

Start by selecting your track from the data provider of your choice…

I’m using BRIS in this example, but you can also choose from TSN or TrackMaster data formats.

Using Internet Explorer, this is the first window you’ll see. Click the Save button and…

Save the file where Hor$ense expects it to go…

Upon closer inspection of the "Save in:" box, you can see that the correct location (when using the installation default) is exactly as shown below.

If you change to a different location, then make sure that’s where the file ends up. The reason for this is Hor$ense will not take the extra time to search through your entire hard drive for the file… and you wouldn’t want it to either.

That’s all there is to it! Hor$ense will open the file for you, so you can just close this screen.

Once the download is complete, you can start handicapping the races for that track, or you may want to download more tracks. The process simply needs to be repeated over again for each track you want to download.

User Forum - here's way to chat with other Hor$ense Pro customers

I have been asked to recommend the best way to allow my users to learn more about Hor$ense Pro without always having to send me emails. Since I can't really devote the time to maintaining a full-time bulletin board, I highly recommend that you connect to Pace Advantage, specifically their FORUM section. When you get there, search for the term "Hor$ense" and jump right in... and if you don't find anything interesting, create your own discussion.

I'd love to start it off, but as a software developer, I can't do it (I have tried before, but it's a no-no). But I can contribute, and I will do what I can to jump in (whenever I remember to go out to the web site). If you need to ask me a question directly, just send me an email at uss@ponypicker.com and I'll make sure that I get back to you right away.

Adding Speed - a way to add "missing" Speed analysis when in the Interactive Handicapping Mode (all Hor$ense versions)

The gray check marks in the "S" column indicate that. NO SPEED analysis will be performed for this horse…

But you can analyze speed by clicking on the check box in the first PP until it is checked…

Optionally, you can "devalue" the speed for this PP... since Hor$ense didn't recommend the Speed analysis, you can choose Trouble Code 99, and then put in -5 to "penalize" the speed by ~1 second…

Hor$essions - some easy examples on setting up the facet selections based on how you handicap (all Hor$ense versions)

These are some examples of Hor$essions that can be used when handicapping a race... when this screen pops up (in RED or GREEN) during race analaysis, all you have to do is highlight the name of the existing Hor$ession and click on the Load button, and the Hor$ession will be used during analysis (don't forget to name them and then click on the Save button).

Example #1: Speed Only with Jockey Weights

Only the SPEED facet is being used (all others set to "n") and the "Use Jockey Weights" box has been checked

Example #2: Horse & Trainer In-the-Money plus Workouts

Only the HORSE IN-MONEY, TRAINER IN-MONEY and WORKOUTS facets are being used (all others set to "n")

Example #3: Tournament Template
(Hor$ense Pro ONLY)
Part 1 - Establishing the Facet Template

Since it's a template, the "generic" Hor$ession should be used...

(Optional) Part 2 - Establishing the Thresholds

This severely penalizes any horse who can't be close to the projected winner AND has an in-the-money (weighted) percentage worse than 25% from the best performing horse!!!

For this Hor$ense Pro example, see the Tournament Play tip on how to use the template during race analysis

Hor$trategies - some easy examples on setting up the pre-race sceeening based on how you handicap

These are some examples of Hor$trategies that can be used when pre-screening a race for possible handicapping... when this screen pops up just before race analaysis, all you have to do is highlight the name of the existing Hor$trategy and click on the Load button, and the Hor$trategy will be used during pre-race screening (don't forget to name them and then click on the Save button AND then the Define button)

Example #1: No Graded Stakes Races

The Grade1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 boxes are checked AND the Always PASS Threshold Control option has been selected

Example #2: Easier Pre-Screening for Maidens

The Maiden and Maiden Claiming boxes are checked AND the Adjust Limit Threshold Control option has been selected, with the screening percentage lowered by 15% to make it easier to have these races marked as "PLAY" races

Example #3: Harder Pre-Screening for Route Races

The Dirt Routes and Turf Routes boxes are checked AND the Adjust Limit Threshold Control option has been selected, with the screening percentage raised by 10% to make it harder to have these races marked as "PLAY" races
